Constructing a new presence

Today we hit the Seattle Dearborn store for a little thrift-therapy after a long, busy weekend!

As soon as we arrived on the corner of the Seattle Dearborn Goodwill we could see the dozers tearing down the old buildings in front of the store, making way for new expansion!

Just look at all that work going into the new location!  You can read more about it in a recent press release.

As we were searching the isles we came across this Stokke highchair for only $7.99!

I mean these things are $335 online brand new and this one was less than $10?  I almost picked it up just to resell it at that price!  But alas, I had only a stroller and I don’t need MORE things in my home… in fact a donation run is quickly approaching us!  So I’ll just leave it to those lucky parents (or resellers) that really would do something with this beauty!

After an hour of searching the store, we were ready to try some clothing on.  Now I will say that the Seattle Goodwill expansion efforts are not coming too soon for this thrifter, especially when it comes to the store’s dressing rooms!  Today was one of those SPECIAL days where the dressing room dictators (AKA other Goodwill shoppers) were especially diligent in WHO is allowed in what room… always a nuisance for those of us with little ones left to wait in a 1/2 hour line behind two other parents just to get the ONE larger dressing room.  But, we waited patiently in line (with the natives being so restless, a missing appendage was NOT worth it to me today) and luckily my little one was a SUPER TROOPER!  I could have just said to heck with it (like I witnessed three other patrons doing… just to put some of their finds back on hanging racks at their frustration) but I decided to wait it out.  So, if this thrifter can make a recommendation for the new space… PLEASE, give us MORE dressing rooms!  And PLEASE, make two or three more larger rooms for those of us disabled, or abled with children!  It would be much appreciated!

So, with the dressing room fiasco behind us and those dictators far from sight… my little one and I gladly checked out with our treasures.

The BLUE TAG specials were kind to us today, scoring a great necklace that I’m going to deconstruct into a new friendship DIY one.  I also bought a set of 50 cards/envelopes for my handcraft-art-cards and some Victorian and whimsical stickers for only .99 cents!

The dressing rooms didn’t do me any favors today, but my little one ended up scoring a couple of new fall items for the $1.29 BLUE TAG sale price, and some much-needed pants/shorts for only $1.99 each!

As in the words of Ice T… today was a good day!  And we for one are eagerly awaiting the new construction of the Seattle Dearborn Goodwill (and please, please, remember us dressing room customers in your construction plans!)

THANKS!   :-)

Really, Really (GOODwill) Renton

This week we ventured down to a new Goodwill store for us… Renton.  I had heard from a reader of this blog months ago that Renton had a larger toy section than most of the other Goodwill’s and since the Seattle Goodwill stores are having a TOY SALE until July 8th, so we headed over to see what goodies we could find.

My older son found two great transformers, for only .99 cents each

And I found quite a few PINK TAG (1/2 off) items…

I have a number of smaller art items that I use to make my upcycled jewelry with, so this tackle-box was perfect to store all those in for only $4.99.  I also try and pick up cards & envelopes for great prices when I can because I also design upcycled Ephemera (collectable items intended to last for a short time, such as tickets, posters, postcards, or cards) so I ended up grabbing three sets of cards and matching envelopes (one pack even had a set of colored markers too!) all were 1/2 off $1.99 each.  I then came upon a new packet of wrapping tissue for 1/2 off .99 cents, a packet of CD sticker covers that were originally priced for $6.99 @ the Container Store marked down to .99 cents @ Goodwill and a mint-condition Pyrex, yellow mixing bowl for 1/2 off $4.99.  Then, just when I thought I was done for the day I came across a great pair of pants for the little one for $1.99 and a Banana Republic tank top for summer also just $1.99!

We enjoyed discovering this new Goodwill store for us and will certainly be back!  If you have some time check out the TOY SALE at any of the Seattle Goodwill stores until July 8th, you never know what you might find!

Pre-Memorial Day Weekend Thrift Haul

This weekend we ventured out to the Bellevue Goodwill (http://www.seattlegoodwill.org/shop/stores/bellevue) to beat the Memorial Day Weekend Sale crowds and ended up scored some great-green-tag-goodies!  Two of the items in the video were green-tags (1/2 off) including this great brand-new kitchen towel (which ended up being only .99 cents!)…

I had a friend recently ask me how much each item was in our last thrift-haul so I’m going to start listing the prices individually when I can, so here is this Thrift-haul’s breakdown…

Towel .99 cents (green tag deal), Vintage little boy’s T $1.99, Brand-new little boy’s T $2.99, Glass lighting fixture $1.99, Star Wars Birthday present (green tag deal) $4.99

See the rest of the Pre-Memorial Day Weekend Thrift-haul items in the video below and have fun @ the sales (or your holiday travels) this Memorial Day Weekend!

Okay Thrift-public, I know my posts have been few & far between lately but between a job-baby-college AND a holiday, I’m lucky I could even GET to a Goodwill in the last two weeks?!

But this weekend, before the sales were gone I popped into the Dearborn store & scored some deals!  See my latest Thrift-haul video below.

Portland Thrift-Haul

To all our Thrift-public readers out there I’ve put together the first Goodwill Thrift-haul video for you of our Portland trip.

Not only does the Portland Goodwill have more donations than ANY OTHER Goodwill world-wide, but they also have the #1 online title as well!  We are going to one of their “designer stores” tonight in Portland’s wonderful Pearl District and I’ll be sure to tell you about the wonderful items soon!

Enjoy the video!

INTRODUCING… The “BUY of the WEEK”

This weekend I not only decided to launch the Living the Goodwill Life videos *YEAH!*… BUT I also announce the first of our “BUY of the WEEK” (BOTW)!

As you will see in the video below the BOTW for the first week of February 2011 is a beautiful, brand-new-with-tags, Nordstrom’s baby girl sweater!

I love this sweater because not only is it brand new but it has that vintage look that we often don’t get with modern baby clothes!

Enjoy this, the first of many Thrift-Haul videos!

Family Haul

This Saturday was WAY to nice out to spend inside the Goodwill… but then again, maybe not.

My family (from the south Puget Sound) came up for the day to work on our Grandpa’s house but the girls had a different idea!  We were going on a THRIFT HAUL! My mother frequents all the Tacoma-based stores but had never been to the main Seattle Goodwill, so we all took an hour and went indoors…

I scored this Great, Green, GAP bag for $5.99 (a second baby bag)

My sis scored a fabulous khaki Banana Republic skirt and mom found a NWT bunch of girl bibs for all the new little ones this year!  Unfortunately none of the items were BLUE TAG, which is the 50% off for the Seattle stores this weekend, but not every weekend you get a designer item for 1/2 off!

Afterwards they all took a ferry-ride topped off with the traditional Seattle IVARS run, so the sunlight wasn’t completely waisted.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend Thrift-public!
